THE BEST (CURATED BY US) APRIL 2024
THE BEST CONSCIOUS THINGS
We like to make conscious decisions, whether that’s for the Earth, ourselves or a good mix of both. From buying cute upcycled pieces to booking a retreat that treats the planet, we’re looking for new ways to be responsible this month. Here is our curated list of the best conscious things.
THE BEST SHOPPING
Upcycled, recycled, second chances, minimalism–there are so many ways to shop consciously, and here are a few we are investing in currently.
We stumbled upon Marlène Rougier on Instagram (of course) and are just obsessed. Based in Bordeaux, they’re a small team that reworks second-hand clothing to give them a second chance. With the spring weather, we’re eyeing their next drop of quilted jackets to add to our closets.
We’re always on the search for fresh tailoring and love to buy it vintage for the fit and vibe. We recently discovered Estete Studio and think they do an incredible job modernizing old pieces. Founded in 2020, each piece is handpicked to curate a contemporary vibe from pre-loved styles. Blazers, button-downs, sweaters–they’ve got it all.
We’re self-care people but recently we’ve found all the options overwhelming and it has left us wanting to pare back. ORRIS is a French beauty brand on a mission to elevate the bar of soap. Made with the highest quality plant-derived ingredients, their bars of soap feel luxurious and deliver all the benefits your current skincare ritual does. We’ve been using LA DÉESSE for about a month and can’t get enough of it.
THE BEST READS
From refreshing your skincare mindset to getting bi-weekly sustainability tips, here is how we’re reading consciously this month.
In our search for making more conscious beauty decisions (aka cutting our routine down), we found “Sustainable Beauty” by Justine Jenkins. It’s a practical guide to living a more eco-conscious lifestyle and maintaining a low-waste beauty routine. Think of it as all the small steps you can make easily and make a difference.
Two women leading sustainability in the fashion industry, one talk. Bonnie Langedijk sits down with Mara Hoffman and Vanessa Barboni Hallik (founder of Another Tomorrow) to talk about bridging the gap between ethics and style. We love both of their perspectives and heartwarming friendship.
Being a fashion brand, we’re always looking for ways to educate ourselves on how to do better. Nuance Required is a bi-weekly newsletter filled with sustainability tips, conscious considerations and a guide on how to make the most of your closet.
THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT
Fun follows, rejuvenating retreats and conscious chatter are how we’re getting some entertainment at the moment.
With summer just around the corner, adventure is on our minds. We’re craving time spent outdoors and some major winding down. The Culture-ist has curated a list of wellness retreats that practice sustainability in everything they do. Some are on the aspirational side, but it’s always fun to dream!
New commute listen here. Kestrel Jenkins & Natalie Shehata open up the conversation about our clothing and the layers of stories, meaning and potential impact connected to what we wear. We love their round-table format and the stories along the way.
While this is less actionable than the rest of our list, we’re always looking for fun new follows. Gab Bois can find the humor is just about everything. Her art is undeniably playful and pokes fun at pretty much everything we use in our day-to-day.
