POSTCARDS FROM MONTANA

Growing up in Montana, I have a deep love for the majesty of the rivers and mountains, an appreciation for the rhythm of the changing seasons, and a reverence for Western history. Once you’ve experienced its magic–big blue skies, bright stars, fragrant hay fields, wildflowers, the stillness of snow–it will stay with you forever.
In our hometowns, we treat our neighbors like family and have a deep respect for nature and wildlife. While I now also call California home, I've carried these values with me in my life and work. I fell in love with FRĒDA not only because of their timeless, flexible styles that allow me to feel equally comfortable in California and Montana but also because of their clear values of community and sustainability.
So, what do I do in Montana wearing my (vintage and new) Fredas? Here are a few favorite things:
Bozeman, Montana: Bozeman is amazing! What was once a farm town has become a thriving, colorful, eclectic hub for food, shopping, and culture. And yet, it still feels warm and intimate in a way that is unique to Montana. When I'm there, I always make a dinner reservation at Blackbird, pick up sandwiches at Wild Crumb, stop to shop at Meridian Boutique, grab flowers at LaBellum, and keep an eye out for any place where local makers and farmers sell their goods—CSA boxes, farmers markets, and more.
There’s also a beautiful spiritual community in Montana that I like to plug into, in Bozeman and beyond, and always look forward to my in-person sessions with Ally of Wild Betty.
The Local Scene in Virginia City, Montana: About an hour from Bozeman, nestled in the Rocky Mountains between the iconic Ruby and Madison River valleys, lies the weird and wonderful ghost town of Virginia City. It's a place where fast lives slow down, the stars are bright, and there's space to be curious, peaceful, and creative. It’s also what I call ‘home’.
One of the first places where gold was discovered in Montana, Virginia City was once among the wealthiest and most vibrant spots in the nation. In its heyday, it thrived with Wild West energy, culture, and vigilante justice.
Today, as one of the best-preserved ghost towns in the U.S., Virginia City offers a beautiful glimpse into the past while carving out its own place in the present. On Main Street, the opera house hosts classic vaudeville shows every summer, and the Pioneer Bar and Bale of Hay Saloon are historic spots to enjoy whiskey. The historic library and post office, quaint and historic, are among my favorite places to “haunt.”
