THE BEST (CURATED BY US) MAY 2024
THE BEST WAYS TO EXPLORE
Summer always gives us the itch to travel and explore new experiences. And while we’d love to be boarding a plane every week to somewhere new, we also know we can discover exciting places from our city or homes too. Here’s our curated list of the best ways to explore this month–no matter the time or place.
THE BEST SHOPPING
This month, we’re searching for items that feel reminiscent of places far away to inspire us on our next adventure.
We discovered this Dutch homeware brand on a recent trip to Spain and have already ordered a few things! Founded in 2008 by Emiel Hetsen and Sander Klaver, they specialize in eclectic interior pieces that evoke memories and feel like vintage treasures. We have an extra soft spot for their '70s Ceramics collection.
If we could pack for our dream Italian sabbatical, we would fill our suitcases with all of Yali’s Collections. Designed in Milan, founder Pia Zanardi takes inspiration from past eras and new worlds. Her pieces further reflect her time spent across cultures in Beijing, New Zealand and London.
We recently stumbled upon Vernisse and instantly fell for the brand. Founded in 2019 by Eugenia Penta and Francesca Filipo, their vision was to create modern pieces from precious textiles, trims and objects from the past. Their Roman and Mediterranean roots are present in every piece giving each one a sense of adventure.
When Rebecca, the founder of Weavers Studio, reached out, we couldn’t be more thrilled to hear from her! She founded her company to curate beautiful experiences and highly crafted, artisanal gifts that deepen relationships. It’s a fun gift of discovery for a friend or even just yourself.
THE BEST READS
Summer (and travel) gives us more time to unwind and catch up on some reading, here’s what’s on our bookshelf this month.
One of our favorite follows, Lizzy Hadfield, started a substack and book club this past month and we couldn’t be more excited. And for our London and NYC-based ladies, she’ll be hosting live events to discuss the monthly read if you’d like to join the fun IRL.
We just finished this book and couldn’t put it down. Based in London, it’s all about a missing and discovered painting and all the lives the painting impacted in its 300-year lifetime including a chef, a banished Russian, a philanthropist and more. Great for a beach read or a rainy day curled up on the couch.
Sometimes the fun is in the dreaming before the planning. Not anything new, but whenever a random rainy day hits–we dive feet-first into the New York Times 36 Hours series. It gives you just the right amount of inspiration to book the tickets already.
THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT
New follows, fresh listens and food inspiration are how we’re keeping entertained all May long.
We follow about a million travel bloggers and influencers, but one we’ve recently been vibing with is Caleb Thill. We love his recommendations of up-and-coming boutique hotels and he has a good sense of places about a year away from being too touristy to enjoy.
Some of you may already be avid listeners but we started listening to BBC’s “Desert Island Discs” during our commute a couple of months ago and obsessed is an understatement. The premise is if you were to be sent off to a desert island, what songs would you choose to bring with you? They’ve interviewed pretty much everybody in the entertainment industry, our personal faves were Greta Gerwig and Stanley Tucci.
Another one that might not be new to you, but still a fun one to indulge in. We’ve been longtime fans of “Chef’s Table” on Netflix and love the way it transports you to faraway places through food and highly acclaimed chefs all over the world.
