Introducing FRĒDA Woman: Alli Webb Alli Webb FREDA Woman

CAN YOU START BY TELLING US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF? YOUR BACKGROUND, WHAT YOU DO, AND WHAT HAS LED YOU TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING NOW?

I’ve been a professional hair stylist since I was 22 years old. I started a family when I was 30, and while I relished being a stay-at-home mom I was craving something for me, something that really filled me up. I adore my boys, but I needed to find something that made me feel fulfilled, which would ultimately make me a much better mama. So I decided to start a mobile blowout business. I was going to friends' homes and blowing out their hair for 40 bucks–two 20’s–super simple. I partnered with my brother Michael and my now ex husband Cameron, and in 2010 we opened our first Drybar location in Brentwood, L.A. We had a line out the door the first day and it never really let up. My life was changed forever! In the last few years, I’ve been exploring new opportunities, investing in other companies, joining boards and have co-founded a few other businesses—Becket + Quill, Squeeze, and Okay Humans.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

It’s a lot of work and there aren’t any short cuts. If you can’t stop thinking about your idea, and you can get comfortable with the unknown, a lot of struggle and failure, then I say go for it.

And “Jump, then think,” is a motto I live by. You’re never going to “be ready,” and it will never be the “right time.” Just start.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR PROUDEST MOMENT AS AN ENTREPRENEUR AND MENTOR?

I’m most proud of the fact that Drybar has been able to create thousands of jobs and hundreds of career paths. Not to mention, the feedback from our very loyal clients. It’s pretty humbling how Drybar became a staple in their lives.

HOW HAVE WOMEN INSPIRED YOU IN LIFE OR YOUR CAREER?

I’m surrounded by so many amazing women. Growing up, my mom, who passed away a couple years ago, was my very first role model. She was an entrepreneur, and such a great example. And today I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful women who are visionaries, founders and creators. I’m constantly inspired by them! They make me want to do better and try harder.

WHAT’S SOMETHING YOU’RE LEARNING ABOUT YOURSELF NOW?

How to be softer, less reactive. My life has changed a lot since starting Drybar 11 years ago. My children are growing up, I went through a divorce that changed my whole outlook on life, and now I’m getting married to an amazing man. Throughout the hard times, I’ve found that developing a new softness, aka Alli 2.0, has helped me connect with people better, and even be a better leader.

WHAT’S YOUR MANTRA?

“Jump, then think.”

WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING, HOW DO YOU LIKE TO SPEND YOUR TIME?

I love being with my family, working out, walking everywhere, and taking good care of myself. I’m a big believer in indulging in all the face and body treatments.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE FEMALE-FOUNDED BRANDS?

Olive & June, Amber Interiors, County Line Florals, Jeni’s Ice Cream, Midland, Sara Happ, Parker Thatch, Clare V, Rebecca Minkoff, Jenni Kayne, The Great, Anine Bing, and, of course, Beckett & Quill, Squeeze and Okay Humans—these aren’t only companies I love but also women I love.
