FRĒDA WOMAN: TERESA PALMER
We’ll be the first to say it: Teresa Palmer is the coolest. Actress, podcaster, adventurer, momma and so much more, we’re so happy to have her as our FRĒDA Woman this month! We had the opportunity to ask her a few questions about everything from her podcast “The Mother Daze” to building community in everything she does.
TALK TO US ABOUT YOU.
I grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, and split my time between farm life at my dad's and suburbia with my mum. I always wanted to be a performer of some kind and pursued acting from about age 16. I followed that dream with blinders on but always wanted all the babies in the land. These dreams ran parallel. I ended up in a movie that premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006 and that was it, my career was off and running, next I just had to find my future hubs and baby daddy! These passions still collide to this day, with co-hosting my podcast “The Mother Daze” and starring in TV and film projects. I have 5 babies, so certainly on my way to having all the babies on the land.
TELL US ABOUT “THE MOTHER DAZE.”
It’s our podcast! I co-host with one of my besties and fellow FRĒDA Woman, Sarah Wright Olsen. It’s a weekly podcast that discusses all to do with motherhood, manifesting, marriage, beauty and the peaks and valleys of raising a family and juggling a career in this day and age.
HOW DO YOU BUILD COMMUNITY WITH “THE MOTHER DAZE”?
We really nurture our “Dazeys,” aka our Mother Daze fans. We love having open communication with them on socials and addressing them on the pod. Sarah and I often discuss how raising children in a community has shape-shifted (not for the better) and in our conversations, we are always trying to uncover ways to find our way back to a more community-based way of supporting parents and raising babies alongside each other.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE YOUR DAZEYS GET WHILE TUNING IN?
A sense of belonging, self-care, laughs, entertainment and feeling like their experiences in parenthood matter.
HOW DO YOU SPEND TIME OUTSIDE OF WORK?
We LOVE travel and taking mini adventures with the family (hello RV life). I’m writing this from the car on the way to Lake Arrowhead where we’ve booked an A-frame cabin for a few nights. We are obsessed with walks in nature, board games and biking. Our dream is to be a full-time traveling family at some point!
WHAT IS SOMETHING SURPRISING ABOUT YOU?
I have pretty wide-ranging interests–for example, I’m a serious gamer, and I liken myself to a competitive board gamer. I’ve had to detox from Monopoly in the past, it got ugly and my stepson and I didn’t talk to each other for a few days haha. I’m also the first one down in our cinema playing Mario Kart, Splatoon and Rayman Legend. I feel the fire and I get fierce, I don’t care how little or big you are, I just want to TAKE DOWN. Lol.
Also, I listen to true crime stories every single day without fail. I may come across as a motherly or spiritual type but then I have this crazy side of me that’s obsessed with mysteries, from ghost stories to UFOs to unsolved murder cases. If I had another job it would be as a detective! I’ve even looked into getting a criminology degree.
YOUR MANTRA?
I don’t really have one to be honest. I just strive to be the best I can be, make real connections with people, lead with love, warmth, gratitude and adventure, and always find an area of interest to learn more about.
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL SUPPORTED FROM THE GROUND UP?
My love language is definitely acts of service! If a lot is going on and I get home to a clean house or dinner made, it just lifts me up. Community is so important to me, my best friends and I having an evening meal, a glass of wine and just unloading all the things always feels so cathartic too.
WHAT IN YOUR CLOSET MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD?
I have this vintage black linen wide-leg romper that I can rock during pregnancy as well as when I’m not pregnant, it’s taken me through many of life’s journeys, and I love pairing it with my FRĒDAs.
HOW DO YOU LIVE LIFE IN FRĒDA?
Joyfully.
