FREDA Women: Taylor Sterling

We are so thrilled to introduce our latest FREDA Girl, Taylor Sterling. Taylor is the founder of Glitter Guide. We recently caught up with her for a stroll in the EDA Sneaker. Read on to learn more about Taylor below!

Please tell us who you are and what you do?

I'm Taylor Sterling. I'm the founder and creative director of Glitter Guide (a lifestyle brand + website that aims to delight and encourage creative energy). Recently, I co-founded Tired Dreamers Club, which is a collaborative community that explores self-care for creatives. I also do art direction and styling on the side @LolaJayne. I'm juggling a lot but in the very best way. I love what I do!

Tell us about how you came to start Glitter Guide and what your plans are for it for the future?

I started Glitter Guide eight years ago after I had been blogging for a few years on a personal blog. I wanted to make an online destination that was inspiring, fun and delightful. I've always been fascinated by women and the magic they create. I wanted to highlight them and be a place where we showcase women on the rise. Now years later all of that is still true, but I recently re-launched with the goal of Glitter Guide being a tool-kit for creativity. I'm passionate about the creative process and the ups and downs we all encounter throughout the process. We've started doing interviews with inspiring creatives and offer a lot of articles to help your creativity thrive.

Being a female entrepreneur is a powerful thing. Can you please share a few words of wisdom/advice to someone that wants to start her own company?

First I would say, go for it! You only have one life on this precious earth you have to make the most of it! Don't be afraid of failure. Being an entrepreneur means you will be failing at things all the time and you have to get comfortable with it. If you're doing something you love it will all be worth it.

Briefly describe your personal style.

My style is all about comfort. Sneakers are a staple for me. I love the juxtaposition of sneakers with a feminine dress. It makes it more casual and unexpected. I also love jeans and a t-shirt or a pair of vintage overalls with boots or Mary Janes.

What are you most proud of?

I'm proud of my adaptability. Whether it's as a business owner or in parenting I have been committed to evolving and bettering myself. Sometimes it's really really hard. However, I've found that doing this hard inner work has such a positive effect on everything I do. It's totally worth it.

Where do you find inspiration and how do you stay inspired?

I'm sort of an inspiration junkie. I love that spark of inspiration that spirals into a new project. I firmly believe in experience for inspiration. It's easy for me to get stuck at my computer and never leave my office, but getting out to a museum, a garden, the ocean, a concert, etc., that is what really opens up my mind to new ideas. I go to my library often too. I always find it so inspiring.

Words to live by?

"Be kinder to yourself. And then let your kindness flood the world." —Pema Chödrön

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don't be afraid of change. You will change many times as you age. Be flexible and open to new ideas. This is growth.

What are you reading right now?

I just started "Just Kids" by Patti Smith and I'm loving it!

What are you listening to?

I'm always listening to something! I get this from my dad who often has a headphone in one ear.

When I'm not listening to Spotify (you can listen to my playlists here). and Soundcloud, I'm usually listening to a myriad of Podcasts. Some favorites are: Upbringing, Oprah's Super Soul Conversations, Simplicity Parenting, Pretty OK, and Holding Space.
