Director of Retail

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Director of Retail will lead and oversee all aspects of our retail business across four (and more) stores, ensuring each location delivers on brand, sales, and customer experience goals. This role requires a strategic, hands-on leader who can balance operational excellence with inspiring team leadership. You will own store performance, operational standards, staffing, training, and retail expansion readiness as we scale. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Strategy

  • Independently develop and execute a retail strategy aligned with company growth, brand, and financial goals.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop store managers and retail teams to achieve performance targets across a bi-coastal fleet.
  • Serve as the brand ambassador in all retail locations, ensuring an exceptional customer experience consistent with the company’s values.

Customer Experience, Loyalty & Clienteling

  • Build and maintain a culture of clienteling, with personalized outreach to top customers and active cultivation of new client relationships.
  • Implement tools and programs to track and grow customer loyalty, repeat purchases, and lifetime value.
  • Drive retail team engagement with VIP clients and local community, hosting in-store events and activations that deepen brand connection.
  • Partner with marketing and eCommerce to create integrated customer experiences and targeted campaigns for high-value segments.

Visual Merchandising & Brand Standards

  • Oversee all visual merchandising to ensure stores reflect brand identity, seasonal storytelling, and product presentation standards.
  • Maintain consistent brand standards across locations while adapting to local market opportunities.
  • Collaborate with merchandising and creative teams to deliver compelling in-store displays and product launches.
  • Conduct regular store visits to audit visual presentation, operational standards, and customer experience execution.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement and maintain operational standards for merchandising, inventory management, and visual presentation.
  • Partner with merchandising and product teams to ensure in-store assortments align with local market needs and sell-through goals.
  • Oversee scheduling, payroll, and operational budgets for all stores.
  • Manage Omichannel DTC orders with team
  • Ensure inventory accuracy

Sales & Performance Management

  • Own retail P&L, driving sales performance and profitability for each store.
  • Establish KPIs for traffic, conversion, AOV, and UPT; monitor performance and implement strategies to improve results.
  • Partner with marketing to drive traffic, events, and community engagement.

Team Development

  • Recruit, onboard, and train high-performing store managers and staff.
  • Create and lead training programs to elevate customer experience, product knowledge, and operational excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, empowerment, and brand passion across all locations.

Expansion & Growth

  • Contribute to site selection and retail expansion strategy.
  • Lead operational planning for new store openings, including hiring, training, and launch execution.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of progressive retail leadership experience, preferably in premium/luxury fashion, footwear, or accessories.  Minimum of 2 years at the Director level with direct reports at the Store Manager level.  
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a fleet of stores with omni-channel presence, driving annual volume of $1M+ per store
  • Proven track record of driving sales, managing P&L, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Experience overseeing multiple locations with diverse market needs.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and develop teams.
  • Deep understanding of retail KPIs and how to leverage them to drive performance.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Hands-on, flexible, and adaptable in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial environment.
