The reimagined penny loafer. Made by hand in bone calf leather, the MATEO updates the classic style with our signature notched welt, angled leather heel and mismatched resin adornments. We’ll live in these loafers with everything from oversized suits to cuffed jeans.

Our shoes are made from the highest quality leather which will last season after season. Leather is a natural material and will give with wear.

  • 100% Italian upper leather in bone calf. This tannery is rated Leather Working Group Silver. Leather Working Group is a tool to evaluate the environmental performance of leather goods manufacturers.
  • 100% Calf leather lined.
  • Notched leather welt
  • Custom Italian resin mis-matched ornaments.
  • Leather sueded sole
  • 0.75" leather-stacked flared heel

This material may feel snug when you first put them on. This is normal as they begin to soften and form to your foot. Before you know it, they will become your everyday favorite.

The MATEO is hand-sewn in our San Salvador, El Salvador, family factory. Our Co-Founder's grandfather started manufacturing shoes 67 years ago, and our hand-sewn Moccasins are produced in a factory that her father started in the 1980s. This factory is one of the last hand-sewn moccasin factories in the world—a true testament to artisanal craftsmanship and passing down this skill from generation to generation

    Magical shoes

    I LOVE my new Freda’s….not only do I feel special everytime I look down but my feet feel fabulous in these shoes. First time I wore them with “Footie Sox” my feet felt like they were in a custom made glove and continued to feel that way all night1. I took m normal size 9.5 have a European foot.

    Freda does it again….smashing style and comfort with amazing craftsmanship and materials!

    These are SO GOOD

    LOVE! Been wearing them with ankle socks, and they’re so comfortable. My friend turned me onto the brand and I’m so grateful. These were final sale so I reached out to figure out my size and they were very helpful in solving that for me. Incredibly comfortable when so many high end loafers are not.

    Like a slipper

    These are extremely comfortable. True to size, but a little tight to get on as you get your heel in to the shoe. Once in, my foot feels supported and the leather is soft.

    I love the differing ornaments on each foot. Have worn with cropped jeans and a dress
