THE BEST: EARTH-DAY INSPIRED (CURATED BY US) APRIL 2025

We like to make conscious decisions—whether that’s for the planet, ourselves, or a good mix of both. In honor of Earth Day this month, we’re thinking more intentionally about how we connect with the world around us. From buying vintage to spending more time outdoors, we’re finding new ways to celebrate Earth this month. Here’s our curated list of green-ish things that make us feel clean (and good).

THE BEST SHOPPING

Recycled, upcycled and vintage–here’s how we’re shopping responsibly this month.

TIMELESS JEWELRY

We’re jewelry enthusiasts at FRĒDA HQ, so when we find a new designer, we obsess. Designed by Danish architect Caroline Sillesen, Corali has an otherworldly feel that’s undeniably beautiful and timeless. Each piece is hand-wrought in recycled, high-quality materials and only produced in small batches to ensure excess inventory.

FRESH VINTAGE

More vintage–all the time. Merci, C’est Vintage is one of fashion’s best kept secrets (so don’t tell too many people!). Started as a hobby by Mariana Vergara, it’s grown into a storefront in Paris, a good selection online, and in various cities as a pop-up. She has one of the more unique sourcing techniques where you’ll be able to find a few statement pieces like THIS

COOL UPCYCLED PIECES

We’re in on the upcycling game, and Phoebe English is one of the designers doing it best. Founded over a decade ago, she has roots in textile craftsmanship and environmental impact. We love her mix of utilitarian and decorative pieces–and have had our eye on some of her “pleated” skirts.

THE BEST READS

Honoring hand craftsmanship, forgoing shopping (how!?) and style with substance is how we’re keeping up with our reading goals.

FOR THE LOVE OF CRAFT

Hand craftsmanship is one of the roots of FRĒDA–so when we see young designers championing it the way we do, it warms our hearts. In this Hurs feature, Simay Demirel spoke to a new generation of designers challenging fashion’s speed by embracing craft. Wonderful read, something we need more of today.

NOT BUYING NEW–A CONCEPT

We’ve all set goals to stop shopping as much–us included. Alicia Kennedy actually did it. A whole year of not buying anything new. Give her a round of applause or two! In this article, she details her entire journey. Days she wanted to break. Her creative ways around not buying new. And the impact of overconsumption. Another good read if you’re looking to lower your impact even just a little.

STYLE AND SUBSTANCE

Style, illustrations, second hand–sign us up. Bay Garnett is somewhat the inventor of second-hand style and this book sums up her ethos. With over sixty articles on everything from thrifting to modesty dressing, drag to vintage sportswear, it’s a wonderfully eclectic celebration of self-expression.

THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT

From finding every excuse to spend time outdoors (polar plunging included!) to a podcast celebrating the people making our clothes, here’s what’s good in entertainment.

JUSTICE FOR THE MAKERS

While not as cheery as we normally go through, we all need something more educational. “Remember Who Made Them” is a six-part podcast series, digital campaign and fundraiser that aims to help energize a new solidarity economy in fashion. It’s packed with useful information to empower you to spread the word.

GET OUT THERE

This is an older list but still relevant. REI created a list to encourage you to spend more time outdoors. Some are big, some are easy and we love every option. We’re firm believers that as humans, we’re solar-powered, air-powered–all the outdoor things-powered. So get out there and enjoy the outdoors, summer is coming!

PLUNGE FOR BENEFITS

Polar plunging has always sat on the periphery of our imagination especially as ice baths are gaining popularity (which we think is a little crazy). But the idea of diving into a beautiful lake surrounded by nature’s beauty? Sign us up, even if it’s a little cold. This article gives you all the ins and outs of the wellness trend.
