FREDA women: Laura Gelvez

We discovered Laura through the very talented, Maria del Rio. We loved Laura's effortless vibe and couldn't wait to shoot her for our Summer Campaign. On the hottest day in June, we headed to the Mission District in SF and met Laura at Media Noche. As the owner and designer of Candelario Design, a sustainable jewelry brand, Laura brought some of her favorite pieces to include in the campaign.

Please tell us who you are and what you do?

I am Laura Gelvez, I am from Colombia and I am the owner and designer of Candelario Design, a sustainable jewelry brand. I have my degree in industrial engineering but I found that my real passion is for design.

Briefly describe your personal style

Every day I feel different, that's why my style can be eclectic but at the same time it can be romantic (love is the most important thing in my life).

What has been the most monumental moment in your life?

It sounds cliche, but definitely the day I got married. I moved to the United States for love after 3 years of a long-distance relationship, and when we got married I felt it was worth the wait.

Where do you find inspiration and how do you stay inspired?

I find my inspiration in the things that make me happy: love, nature, good energies, art, travel. I keep inspired thanks to the passion that I have for that I do, is like a necessity to create all the time.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Everything is possible!!! If you believe in yourself everything that you want, you are going to make it happen always with hard work, responsibility, and discipline.

What are you reading right now?

Right now I am reading “ El tiempo entre costuras ” by Maria dueñas. A novel full of love, history, and mystery. It's about a Spanish seamstress that left her country for love. She ended up in Morocco in World War II where she becomes a secret spy and helps to end the Nazi era. I really recommend it.

What are you listening to?

In my home, music is really important. Right now I have an obsession for Brazilian jazz, like Joao Gilberto.

What are you most proud of?

I feel very proud of Candelario Design, a business that I had built with a lot of effort. Every time that I look back, I feel very happy and I want to keep growing. It’s been almost two years and thanks to Candelario I realize that I can do everything I ever dream.
