Tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi! I’m Jessica Larez. I’m a singer and abstract artist living in Oakland, CA. Growing up I’ve always been into art. That means anything from music, drawing, modeling or dancing. It has always been my thing. I went to a performing arts high school where I joined my first choir. My mother went to the same school. Hint as to why I went. The first thing I do when I wake up is meditate and do yoga. I try to start my day off with a clean slate. I turn on some music, make tea and paint. At some point I read for at least 30 minutes to an hour and then head out to run errands or hit the neighborhood lake.
What are you reading?
At the moment I’m reading a few books that my boyfriend recently got us. I can never just read one book at a time. I typically would start a book halfway and then start another. I’m currently reading 3. The Autobiography Of Malcolm X, Fresh Water by Akwaeke Emezi and James Baldwin’s If Beale Street Could Talk.
Do you have a favorite place you'd like to share?
I really love being surrounded by nature and the ocean. There are definitely places that I would love to revisit, such as Big Sur and Carmel. For my birthday my boyfriend and I took a trip to Cabo, Mexico. For anyone visiting Cabo San Lucas. I would suggest going whale watching! It was truly amazing. I love driving down highway 1 for the coastal views. It’s so beautiful during sunset.
What are you listening to?
I love that you asked me this question because as of lately, I have been making a lot of playlist. I love jazz music and just anything that makes me want to dance. My favorite artist at the moment is Lianne La Havas.
