OCTOBER 2023: THE BEST (CURATED BY US)

THE BEST OF DENIM SEASON

If you can’t tell by our styling notes and campaign imagery–we love denim. And while we’re denim women all year round, fall goes hand in hand with our obsession with this essential. From our favorite silhouettes to the substack dedicated to the closet staple, here is our curated list of the best denim of the season.

THE BEST SHOPPING

Menswear, oversized Americana styles and plant-dyed feels are on our denim shopping list this month.

FOREVER US

We'd be the top members if there was a fan club for Citizens of Humanity’s horseshoe jeans. Nearly every person in our office owns a pair after our co-founder Megan first started wearing them. We love how they make even a white tee look cooler.

BORROWED FROM THE BOYS

We first discovered the Imperfects at a boutique in our hometown in Sausalito. They’re a surf and skate brand based in San Diego and make the shirket of our dreams. Their OG style, it is a kimono-style work shirt with unconventional pockets and signature stitching.

FUNCTION MEETS FASHION

Founded by designer and Maine native Julie O’Rourke, Rudy Jude makes collections inspired by nature. Sourcing from the US and Japan, their styles are plant-dyed and made to live in. While we’ve been eyeing their colored options for a while, we currently have the indigo utility jeans in our carts.

THE BEST READS

From everyday denim inspiration to the Japanese craft, here are the go-to reads on our closet favorite.

JAPANESE CRAFT

Denim enthusiasts know the Japanese know good denim–if not the greatest. From their construction to the production, Highsnobeity writer Brock Cardiner takes you through the history of the best denim in the world.

IN THE NEWS(LETTER)

Writer, editor and designer Jane Herman thinks a pair of jeans can change your life. She started a substack on everything to do with–you guessed it, denim. She explores the reason we all love denim and the intimacy we have with our favorite pair of jeans.

DENIM FOR DAYS

Street style is a part of our everyday life and where we get constant inspiration to evolve our personal style. Amy Leverton has been working in the denim industry since 2003 and takes you through the sexiness and undeniably cool factor of jeans. The ultimate ode to this essential.

THE BEST ENTERTAINMENT

Parisian-inspired playlists, your next Insta follow and a documentary dedicated to America’s denim history is how we’re keeping entertained this October.

YESTERDAY’S FAVORITE

It’s an American classic and we celebrate it everyday. Riveted: The History of Jeans by PBS is the incredible story of this iconic style. It’s not all pretty, but important to remember how we got to where we are today.

TODAY’S INSPIRATION

This is our latest follow and we think it should be yours too! The Denimist has the most beautiful website (magazine-like) and their feed is a feast for the eyes when it comes to style. The simplicity and sensibility are something to be coveted.

TUNE INTO STYLE

Paris-based creative consultant, former Editor-in-Chief of Self Service Magazine and Editorial i-D France Claire Thompson Jonville curated a playlist for Monster Children inspired by riding your bike through Paris–in your favorite denim, but of course.

THE COSTUME OF ALL COSTUMES

Can’t go wrong this Halloween with denim on denim on denim.

FRĒDA + DENIM = THE WINNING COMBINATION
